El 18 de diciembre del 2011 es la primera celebración del

DIA INTERNACIONAL SIN INGLES

Individuos y organizaciones en el mundo que participen en el proyecto no hablarán, escribirán o leerán inglés en este día.

En el 2010 las Naciones Unidas declararon seis Días Internacionales de la Lengua, uno para cada una de sus lenguas oficiales. El 18 de diciembre es Día de la Lengua Arabe. El Día Internacional Sin Inglés es una nueva obra de Pedro Lasch para esta ocasión, así como para el llamado general de Creative Time, el Queens Museum of Art, y el Immigrant Movement International de Tania Bruguera’s para el Día de los Migrantes. Intencionalmente abierto a muchas interpretaciones e intensiones en esta primera etapa, el DISE se extenderá en direcciones específicas conforme se celebre el evento cada año con nuevos participantes, en diferentes lugares y por distintas razones.

Todos los participantes serán listados. Para ser listado, ayudar con traducciones de cualquier idioma a otro, o para hacer preguntas, escribe a Pedro Lasch o Jessye McDowell con la dirección daywithoutenglish[at]experimentalcommunities.net

SAF’s migrant youth group and Raúl F. Gámez are meeting this weekend for their last training of 2011 in Newton Grove (NC), where they will attend workshops on food justice led by SAF program director Laxmi Haynes (who is celebrating 10 years with SAF) and a workshop focused on immigration led by SAF board member Pedro Lasch. These workshops are in celebration of International Day Without English and International Migrants Day.

On December 18th, in New York City there will be a rally and march for immigrants as part of Occupy Wall Street. IMI’s December 18 Call participants will join the march, highlighting the 100+ compelling actions planned throughout the world. IMI will be featuring each participant’s name and location on a sign to be held by one person in the march.

Project Launch from IDWE Headquarters at Duke University in Durham, NC and Super G: Experiential Residency Program in Greensboro, NC.

The 2011 International Day Without English campaign will be launched from its headquarters at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina December 12 – 18.

In addition to what any other participants may be organizing around the world, a final launch event will also happen on December 18, 2011 from 1-3pm at the ‘Super G: Experiential Residency Program’ in Greensboro, North Carolina (*see directions below).

The event is a conversation about culture and migration co-hosted by Lee Walton and Donovan McKnight (Super G: Experiential Residency Program creators), Xandra Eden (Curator of Exhibitions, Weatherspoon Art Museum), and Pedro Lasch (IDWE producer and Duke University Professor). We invite anyone wanting to hear or share ideas, stories or experiences of migration and culture to this event. Please note that half way through the event, beginning at 2pm, some of us will stop speaking English to observe International Day Without English. This will also be our way to participate in the UN/QMA/Creative Time/IMI Global Action for International Migrants Day.

*Where: Super G Mart, 4927 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC (when entering the store, walk straight ahead to the flea market, the International Day Without English booth will be on in that section)
